Boots Haul

Yesterday was payday (thank god) so I decided it was about time I stocked up on a few of my essentials while I'm not scraping the bottom of my purse for 5p's. I also have just received some Boots vouchers to use so what better time to use them!

First up is my holy grail hair product Batiste Dry Shampoo which I get in the dark and deep brown hint of colour as I have dark brown hair and detest when the original leaves white residue on my scalp. Although no dry shampoo is ever going to do the job a proper hair was is going to, it can definitely save the day when I'm running late in the morning or if I need that extra bit of texture to my hair. There are plenty of other dry shampoos on the market, I have tried many but none seem to do the job quite like this one!

Next I went and re-purchased my hairspray Tresemmé Salon Finish Hairspray Extra Hold which I have seriously been using since the age of 13. I have gone through so many cans of this especially from my "emo" days when the sweeping fringe was full force and it took half a can just to keep it in place for the day. Long gone are those days but I still need some extra hold at times. This has definitely fulfilled my hairspray needs however I am on the lookout for another one to try. I think I am going to try a Toni&Guy one next. If you have any hairsprays you think I should give a go please leave a comment below I'd love to hear what you swear by.

A brand new purchase for me was the L'oreal Miss Manga Mega Volume Mascara. I have heard SO much about this mascara, everyone is raving about it so I thought I would give it a go. I was not expecting the amazing results I got from it. I have only used it twice but I think it has quickly become my new favourite mascara, stepping ahead of L'oreal telescopic. This confirms L'oreal really know how to make a good mascara.

If you know me you would know how much I bang on about Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner. I have used this for about 8 years and I still love it and I am yet to find something that comes close to how amazing this liquid eyeliner is. And believe me, I've tried so many products but nothing beats this! Not only does it give a clear, precise, jet black line every time, but it hardly budges and it lasts a really long time. Unlike liner pens which I really hate. I am going to write a review about the Revlon liner pen soon. So yeah Rimmel liquid eyeliner will be a permanent item in my make-up bag.

Lastly Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint in 'In a Heart Beat'. Although I've never been a massive fan of Barry M nail paint I do really love the colours, I just have a problem with them taking a long time to dry and chipping. When I saw 'quick dry' I couldn't not pick one up. I had to see for myself. Also I was in need of a new pastel pink shade for spring. I am still yet to try this so when I do I will write a review.

I also bought some moroccan argon oil but I am still yet to try it and I am saving it for my next review and I am also comparing it to another brand so I saved the picture for next time.

Dealing with a cold

So it's coming to that time of year again where winter slowly starts turning into spring and one by one people start to come down with colds and flu from the changing weather. However, truth be told I get colds and flu all throughout the year. In fact I'm getting over a cold right now. I am so experienced with the annoying illness that I thought I'd share with you my tips on feeling better and getting over it quicker.

  • For me I always get a warning that I'm going to get sick as I get a strange tingly feeling/soreness right at the back of my nose/throat area. This is how I know to whip out the remedies. I'm a strong believer in prevention over cure so catching a cold/flu early can really help shorten the course. My favourite things to use are nasal sprays (beconase is the best you can buy this from most chemists. Also first defence is good.) This is also when I start to take lemsip either in tablet form or drink form. (The drinks are disgusting but I think they work better). These usually contain paracetamol so do not take paracetamol tablets while taking lemsip as overdosing can be extremely dangerous.
  • When you wake up in the morning and your nose is completely blocked make sure you are blowing your nose as much as possible and taking your nasal sprays as it says on the label. To relieve congestion consider taking decongestants such as sudafed. These are excellent for relieving sinus pressure also. Beware about taking these with other medications as sometimes they contain paracetamol. Always read the label before you take them!
  • Another way of helping a blocked nose is filling a large bowl of boiling hot water, adding drops of olbas oil and leaning over it with a towel over your head. Alternatively just smelling a tissue with drops of olbas oil inside will help.
  • Little evidence says this works but some find it helpful rubbing Vicks Vaporub on the soles of your feet and covering them with socks before you go to bed can help. However, rubbing it on my chest and a tiny bit under my nose always helps me!
  • Soothing a sore throat can be very difficult but the best ways I have found are sucking on Strepsils, gargling with warm salt water and sipping on hot water with lemon juice and honey.
  • Throughout the whole course of the cold/flu you should be drinking as much water as you possibly can as this will help flush out the cold.
  • Avoid exercise if you can especially if you have a cough as this could make it worse. Try to rest and leave it until you are recovered.
  • If you have the flu and are suffering from "the shivvers" - something I get. Have a hot water bottle or warm wheat bag on hand to warm you up.
I hope these tips help you and get you feeling more yourself again. Leave a comment if you have any other tips on dealing with a cold.
